Note to Students:  A limited number of conference fee waivers for student SHA members are available. Preference will be given to those students presenting papers or willing to volunteer at the conference. The following field trips are scheduled for Friday October 19th.  There is no additional fee, but you need to bring your lunch.

Field Trip #1:

Kaawaloa, Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, via Old Government Road and Cart Road, beginning and ending at Kokulia.

Field Trip #2: Hokulia Shoreline Park
Field Trip #3: Kaloko Honolohau National Historical Park.  Title--How to create a Live-in Cultural Center in a National Park
Field Trip #4: Restoration Project, Hapaialii Heiau

Conference paper topics so far include: Site and landscape restorations, material culture/artifact analysis, Hawaii island rock art, historic archaeology at Laumai`a, regional archaeology presentations on Wailau, Kohala, Kalaupapa, Kahaluu, Pohakuloa and New Zealand, theory/literature/meta-archaeology.

We have a really great lineup of presentations, including contributions by Maurice Major, Victoria Wichman, Tom Dye, Paul Cleghorn, Patrick Kirch, Michael Graves, Thegn Ladefoged, Mark McCoy, Shawn Barnes, Jim Flexner, Rob Hommon, Kathy Kawelu, Windy McElroy, Scott Williams, Rick Rogers, Patty Spears, Julie Taomia, Peter Mills, Carolyn White, Ed and Diane Stasack.

Although the deadline has passed there may still be room on the schedule for additional papers. Everyone is encouraged to present something or lead a discussion. Organizers are articularly interested in active or ongoing preservation and restoration efforts for historic sites.

Conference ends by 4 p.m. on Sunday the 21st.
