Application & Renewal Form (fillable .pdf)

The Society for Hawaiian Archaeology is a registered tax-exempt organization established in 1980 to promote and stimulate interest and research in the archaeology of the Hawaiian Islands, to encourage a more rational public appreciation of the aims and limitations of archaeological research; to serve as a bond among those interested in Hawaiian archaeology, both professionals and non-professionals, and to aid in directing their efforts into more scientific channels; to encourage the publication of their results; to advocate and to aid in the conservation of archaeological data; to discourage unethical commercialism in the archaeological field and to work for its elimination.

The Society's journal Hawaiian Archaeology was established in 1984.

Members of the Society agree to support the principles of the organization. For more information, please see the Constitution and Code of By-Laws of the Society.

Membership Information:

There are four categories of membership in the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology: Lifetime (single payment of $500), Regular ($30/yr.), Family/Institutional ($35/yr.), and Student (must be full-time, with valid student ID, $15/yr.).  Lifetime and Regular members are voting members.

The annual journal Hawaiian Archaeology is included as part of your membership. The SHA website provides up-to-date information about speakers, job announcements, web site resources of interest to members, and the annual conference.  The Society's e-mail distribution list provides timely information on local, national, and international job announcements, field schools, and other information of interest to our members.

The Society operates on a calendar fiscal year (January 1st–December 31st). Annual dues are payable by the 1st of January.  Production of Society publications, and conduct of other Society activities is dependent on the timely payment of membership dues.

Membership applications & renewals, and requested changes in membership status should be directed to the Treasurer, Alan Carpenter, at  P.O. Box 23292, Honolulu, HI 96823, or e-mail alan.b.carpenter@hawaii.gov.  Changes of e-mail address, mailing address, and phone numbers should be directed to the Communications Secretary/Webmaster.
